This One's For The (Pale) Girls: Balm Shelter Tinted Moisturizer

You gotta love a good tinted moisturizer, no?  It feels nice and light on the skin and is really easy to apply with your fingers -- what's not to love?  TheBalm was featured on Hautelook.com a little while back and this ended up in my shopping cart.  Balm Shelter comes in three shades, all of which are unfortunately pretty light.  I have the lightest which is pretty pale...so if anyone else is pigment-challenged, this is a really good pick.

I would say this formula is probably better for those with slightly oilier skin as it's not incredibly moisturizing.  If you do have dry skin but want to give it a try, you may need to add a light serum/oil before you put this on to amp up the hydrating factor.  As far as coverage goes, it does a good job of camouflaging slight imperfections and evening out skin tone, but don't expect it to cover up any angry red spots or dark circles resulting from a late night of catching up on last season's shows (Anyone else excited that it's premier season??  It helps soften the blow of loosing Dexter and Breaking Bad at the same time).

All in all I'm really happy with my purchase.  I think my only real gripe would be that it only comes in three very light shades...not so great for all you tanned ladies out there.

What's your favorite tinted moisturizer?

  1. I like BB Creams because they are light coverage, but all the ones I have tried make my oily skin worse. I've never tried a tinted moisturizer but I will have to try this one. Thanks for the review.

    1. If you're dealing with really oily skin I would try this with a little powder on top! Rimmel's Stay Matte powder is a good one (and super cheap!)

  2. This is intriguing. I'm definitely "pigment-challenged" as well, so good to know there's something out there for us light girls. I often find most tinted moisturizers and BB creams are too orange for my pale skin.

    1. This one will DEFINITELY be good for your pale skin :) Honestly, sometimes I think the shade I got is almost too pale...which almost never happens!
