Honestly, it's like the beauty industry is trying to teach us our ABC's or something with all these new creams coming out. First it was BB cream, now there's CC cream and I even have heard a mention of a DD cream (to which I rolled my eyes and gave an audible and exasperated sigh).
Annoying name aside, when these products first came out I didn't know what to think. It seemed like it was just another gimmicky item. I've tried a couple drugstore BB creams and as I've said before, I believe they are just glorified tinted moisturizers. The entertaining thing about those particular items is that they brag about being "8 in 1" or something crazy like that. One brand in particular lists their 8 benefits but the problem is....they are basically using a lot of synonyms. So in reality their BB cream has about 3 supposed benefits. I mean really, don't "brighten" and "enhance" basically mean the same thing (at least as far as skin care is concerned)? Anyway, enough with my annoyance.
I had heard that Asian BB creams were far superior to anything we have around here, so I set out to find some reviews. I found this great video on Pretty Shiny Sparkly where she stated Skin 79 was one of her favorite BB creams. I figured I would give it a try since it was only about $23 (I bought it from this site which is now saying it's $30...I believe I did find a coupon code for the site but still don't remember the original price being $30. It comes in smaller sizes so if you want to give it a try without spending that much, you could purchase a smaller one). I purchased the largest size which will last a LONG time. You only need about 1 pump or less to cover your entire face.
I was a little worried about ordering from the site at first since it slightly looks like a 13 year old designed it, but figured I would do it anyway. I received my product in about 3 days so the shipping was incredibly fast! It also came well packaged so the site gets my seal of approval.
As far as the actual product goes -- I'm completely loving it. It has SPF 25, which I really appreciate. It also says that it is "whitening" which just means that it evens out your skin. I'm not sure about that since I've only been using it about a week or so but hey, added bonus if it does. I think it has enough coverage to wear by itself if you don't want to put a lot of makeup on one day and it also works really well with putting foundation over it. I personally think that it keeps my foundation looking nice and keeps me from getting shiny later in the day. It's basically fool proof to apply and looks really natural after a few minutes.
I will say that right out of the container, the product does look a little grey-ish (as you can see in the pictures). However, once you put it on and let it sit for a minute or two, it blends in just fine. Also, the only major downside of this (and many Asian BB creams) is that it only comes in one color! This works really well for us pale people but for anyone that is pretty tan, I'm not sure if this would blend enough to work for you.
All in all this is what a BB cream is supposed to be. More coverage than a tinted moisturizer but still feels really light and contains other benefits such as SPF.
Which BB creams have you tried? Have you found any American/drugstore brands that you like?
