Is it Worth the Hype: The Beauty Blender

Beauty Blender

I've been excited to do this review ever since I got this little beauty...okay it's only been about 2 weeks but still.  That's FOREVER when you've found a great item!  After reading such awesome reviews about the Beauty Blender I thought it would be worth it to splurge on this overly priced little sponge ($19.95 at Sephora).

First off, it was a lot smaller than I thought it would be.  When the Sephora employee handed me the BB, I was quite surprised.  Imagine putting an iPhone horizontally...the packaged BB is about 1/3 of that size.  Don't let the stock pictures fool you.  But, that didn't deter me from buying this bad boy.  Of course.

The next day, I wet the sponge as directed and squeezed out the extra water so it was damp but not soaking.  I used the BB to apply my Skin 79 BB Cream and immediately loved it.  Surprise surprise.  The thing I really like about it is that it is just so fast!  For me, it takes about half the time to apply my foundation (or bb cream) which is an incredible bonus.  It also does make your foundation look really nice.  People aren't kidding when they say it gives that airbrushed look.  It's so easy to apply more coverage on areas that are particularly red (or discolored or whatever the case may be) without making it look cakey or like you're wearing tons of makeup.

To apply, just put a little foundation on the back of your hand and dab the BB into the foundation.  Then, to get the flawless type finish, you bounce the sponge all over your face until you've reached your desired coverage.  You can also use it with your concealer and even a finishing powder if you like.

The one thing that is slightly annoying, but not really the fault of the BB, is that you need to wash it really often.  I wash mine every morning before I use it.  It's a bit of a hassle only because it takes extra time, but in the end it's worth it.  I suppose you could wash it after every couple of uses, but since you have to wet it anyway I figure I'll just wash it also.  I have been using dish soap but the BB does have it's own cleaner.  I've read reviews saying it works well, but honestly I don't think it's necessary.

There's also a white BB that comes with a travel case and a sort of bar soap for a cleaner.  It's dubbed as their travel BB, but it seems a little gimmicky.  The solid cleaner seems like it would be more annoying than a liquid cleaner and you can buy a little travel case for $3 at Target if you really want a special case.  But that's just my opinion!

There are MANY dupes out there although I've heard the Sonia Kashuk version is not as nice.  There are versions being sold on Ebay for about $1.50 and I actually purchased a couple yesterday so I can do a comparison.  I love my BB but since it's a sponge, it won't last forever and I just don't know if I can shell out another $20 to get another one in a few months, so look forward to a comparison of the two!

All in all, I would definitely recommend the Beauty Blender as it makes your makeup look really nice and cuts down on application time.  It is pricey, but it's been worth it for me so far.  I'm really hoping to find a dupe so I'll keep you posted!

Have you used the Beauty Blender or any of the other beauty sponges out there?  What's your experience with them?
