Maybelline Fit Me Stick Foundation and Concealer

A few months ago, Maybelline came out with their Fit Me Shine Free Stick Foundation.  I was intrigued because 1. I've never tried a stick foundation before and 2. it was supposed to be a shine free formula.  On my trek to the drugstore, I also picked up Maybelline's Fit Me Concealer as I heard it was similar to the ever loved NARS Creamy Concealer.

First up, the foundation.  It comes in a respectable 12 shades and is about $6.99, depending on where you pick it up.  You get .32 oz of product which is about 1/3 of the standard 1 oz for your average foundation...so that's a little disappointing.  I suppose the company didn't want the stick to be an unmanageable size, but then one would think they would charge 1/3 of the normal foundation price.  Alas, that's not how the beauty industry works.

As far as performance, the foundation is supposed to give a shine free finish because of the "anti-shine" core in the middle.  It's a cream (ish) to powder formula that is incredibly easy to apply and blend.  I've found it's best to just swipe it on and blend it in with fingers.  It has a medium coverage and a natural finish that is indeed shine-free.  I think this would be a really great foundation to keep in your handbag or bring traveling as it's easy to apply on the go and since it isn't a liquid, shouldn't count towards the 3 oz rule while flying.  Overall, it's a nice foundation if you are interested in trying something a little different.

The Fit Me Concealer is also a win, in my opinion.  Coming in at 6 shades for around $5.49, it's a great option to cover any redness or under-eye areas.  It might not have the staying power necessary for covering blemishes, but I think it does well on any post-blemish scars.  I've recently been using a little of this around my nose and on my chin with a little powder over top and am good to go.  It's natural and easy to blend with a brush (or sponge).

What do you think of these products from Maybelline?  Are you a stick foundation fan?

Urban Decay's The Mother Lode and Eye Pencil Vault

UD Sets

Let's all just take a moment to pause and really appreciate the amazingness of these collections.

*Swoon*

If you haven't seen these yet, they are limited edition sets released by UD and the shadow collection is only available at Sephora.  I'm not 100% sure if the liner set is being sold elsewhere.  However, they are both online only which means us commoners who can't justify shelling out for the high price tag can't even ogle it in person.  Tear.

The Pencil Liner Vault comes with 40 full size pencils for a mere $295.  The price for one 24/7 Glide On Liner is $19, and the price for this set breaks down to $7.38 per liner, so you're definitely getting a deal.  You can use that argument when you're trying to convince your parents/boyfriend/random person on the street that this would make a perfect Christmas present.

The Mother Lode Shadow Set contains a whopping 68 shades, causing any UD fan to drool a little.  But, this gem will set you back $595 bucks.  Yup, you read that correctly.  One shadow bought individually will cost you $18 and the set breaks down to $8.75 a shade, in case you're curious. But hey, with the VIB sale coming up next week, you can get 20% off (making the breakdown $7 per shade)...makes it totally affordable, huh?

Would you ever consider buying one of these sets or will you just stare at it longingly via Sephora.com?

Olivia Pope Inspired Winter Coats at All Price Points

Olivia Pope Inspired Winter Coats

I've pretty much become obsessed with the show Scandal ever since I watched my first episode a few months back.  I downloaded Season 1 to watch on the plane down to Texas in August, and it's been love ever since.  Aside from the political drama and presidential love affair, Olivia Pope has the most beautiful wardrobe of anyone on TV.  She shares my love for ivory hues and amazing coats.

Since the outerwear she sports would put a depressingly large dent in my bank account, I thought I would go on the hunt for some options for those of us who don't earn the salary of a professional "fixer."

Under $50
Forever 21
H&M

Under $100
Boohoo.com

Under $200
House of Fraser
Banana Republic

I think I have to say my favorites are the H&M and Banana Republic options.  Which look do you prefer?

Hautelook Heads Up #2

Korres is on Hautelook today!  The event started at 10:00 (CST) and I'm guessing this one will sell pretty quickly so if your a Korres fan, get to it so you still have a good selection.  Sometimes, when Hautelook has beauty products, the discount is only about 20% and with the $8 or so shipping, it doesn't end up being that great of a deal.  However, the Korres products are on a pretty nice discount with the body butters being about 60% off.  Not too shabby!

Five Berry Lipsticks for Fall

Five Berry Lipsticks for Fall

Do you ever have one of those mornings where everything is slightly annoying?  I'm having one of those mornings.  I was running late, got stuck behind a bus on my way in to work, then stuck behind the slowest driver in the world in the parking ramp and finally was bombarded with club music while waiting for my elevator (the main floor of my building often has events going on...but club music at 8 in the morning?  Come on).  Nothing terrible, just annoying.  Anyway, enough of my vent.  On to the lipsticks.

Berry lips always reemerge in the fall/winter months.  It's as reliable as shorter days and cooler weather.   Here are a few options to add to your cold weather must haves:

1.  Shame by Urban Decay.  This is definitely for those who don't shy away from a really bold lip.  It is a very deep berry color and the formula is really moisturizing while still coming off opaque.

2.  Damned Velvet Matte Lip Pencil by NARS.  These lip pencils have great staying power and are really easy to apply.  Damned is what I consider a "true" berry color.  An equal balance of purple and pink.

3.  Rouge Artist Intense in #7 Matte Bordeaux by Make Up For Ever.  These lipsticks also have wonderful staying power.  The only down side of these is that they can be a little drying, so you may want to use them with a bit of balm.

4.  Manic by Urban Decay.  I don't know if it's cheating by having two UD lipsticks on the list, but hey, they are that good.  Manic is described as a "soft wine" color on the Sephora site.  I would say it's a reddish wine color...not quite a berry but I'm including it anyway.  Gettin' crazy over here!

5. Almost Lipstick in Black Honey by Clinique.  Black Honey is supposed to be a universally flattering shade and I think it lives up to that claim.  You can apply it sheer or build it up for a bold effect.  It's really moisturizing and feels more like a lip balm than a lipstick.

What lipsticks are on your list for fall?

The Body Shop: Not Only for Body Butters

I've only fairly recently been exposed to the wonderful world that is The Body Shop (within the last year or so) and I never would have thought that I would find some makeup gems.  During my last little haul at TBS, I picked up one of their single Color Crush Eye Shadows in Melt My Heart along with their new Color Crush Lipstick in 335 Hot Date

The shadow is a really pretty light bronze-y color that looks really nice as an all over the lid shade.  It's a pearlescent finish but doesn't contain any glitter, which I really like.  The shadow is really easy to apply with any shadow brush and blends nicely.  It didn't crease on me, but if you want it to stay put all day it's better to use a primer (as with any shadow).  Overall, I think the formula of these is really nice, comes in 23 shades and they are currently 40% off online so you really can't go wrong.

Then, there's the lipstick.  This lipstick is SO NICE.  I was surprised at how nice and moisturizing the formula is.  Hot Date is a matte color but not a matte formula, it has a bit of a shine to it.  It really feels like you're putting on a moisturizing lip balm.  As far as stay power, it's on par with your average lipstick.  You can get a few hours wear before it starts to fade and you would need to touch up.  The saleswoman said she was able to eat and drink without it fading, but I didn't have the same luck.  She was probably just trying to sell me the product but hey, that's her job so I can't fault her.  I would definitely recommend these lipsticks, especially if you're looking for something moisturizing.  They come in 24 colors and many of them area great shades for fall.

Have you tried The Body Shop's makeup products?
